Migrant Institute of STEM and Leadership (MISL)
The Migrant Institute of STEM and Leadership (MISL) was designed for High School migrant students with the purpose of exposing them to a variety of STEM related careers, developing their leadership and teamwork skills and exposing them to the university. MISL was made possible with the collaboration of the Education and Leadership Foundation and the Fresno State Dream Outreach Center as well as the participation of the Migrant Education Program Regions: III, IV, VIII, XXIII, and XXIV.
MISL consisted of a two-week stay in the CSU, Fresno dorms with a full daily schedule for all participants. The students’ daily schedule included three meals a day, three two-hours academic classes, a career explorations presentation, one two-hour visual and performing arts class, one hour of leadership development activities and one hour of sports activities. MISL concluded with a one-day educational field trip and a closing ceremony that included a showcase of the visual and performing arts classes.
